Vice President of Operations, US/Global
Darrel Shirk is BMG Production Music’s Vice President of Operations, US/Global. For the US Darrel oversees licensing, administration, legal, finance, music pitching and production for day to day US operations. In addition to the US business he is responsible for the global operations covering administration, digital services, metadata management, catalog integrations and sub publisher relations.
Darrel joined BMG in 2011 through the Bug Music/Selectracks acquisition. He started in music publishing in 2010 as a mechanical licensing intern at Bug Music and later employed in copyright. Thereafter he moved to Selectracks managing licensing and administration, which in turn became BMG’s first production music label. Darrel oversaw the build out of production music backend operations and systems, including the integrations of the Parry Music, X-Ray Dog and Music Beyond catalogs, what would later develop into BMG Production Music in 2016.
Prior to music publishing and production music, Darrel managed Borders Books & Music Stores and pursued a music career as a bassist in various Southern California bands. His passion for music and business started in high school, where he built and operated a recording studio in his family’s barn and started an indie label at the age of 18.
