Understanding Global Licensing in 2019
Simon Anderson grew up making music, singing as a chorister in Durham Cathedral, and going on to study music with musicology at Edinburgh University, completing his Ph D in early music research at Durham University. His industry career began with five years working at PRS and MCPS in London, in licensing and copyright. After three years running the copyright department of a printed music publishers Simon moved to the start-up production music library Audio Network in 2005, where he is responsible for global publishing and licensing activities. He helped spearhead the growth of its royalty collections internationally, building a team of ten. In 2015 he completed the LLM degree in entertainment industry law at Westminster University, focusing on plagiarism in music and graduating with distinction. Subsequently he helped create and build the university’s online resourcewww.lostinmusic.org where music copyright infringement cases are explored in detail.
Simon has represented Audio Network as a publisher director of PRS since 2016 and at the UK Music Publishers Association since 2017. He was made an Associate Fellow of Westminster University Law School in 2018. Simon is a composer member of PRS and of the Ivors Academy and in spare time plays keyboards for tribute bands to The Beatles, Atlantic soul music and Elton John.
