Morgan McKnight is the Executive Director of the Production Music Association, which manages comprehensive initiatives surrounding the Production Music Industry. The Association is also responsible for founding the prestigious Production Music Conference (PMC) and Mark Awards, which has become the international meeting place for the production music community, representing 30 countries and counting.

McKnight got her start in Marketing, Communications and Event Development and held various prominent positions working in the field for both corporate and non-profit organizations. She ultimately decided to pursue a Graduate Degree in Music Industry Administration at Cal State Northridge, where a former attorney and CSUN professor, Steve Winogradsky, introduced her to the world of publishing. McKnight works with composers and production music publishers all over the world in order to advance the unique value of production music and ensure a better future for the community.

We asked Morgan what change she hopes to see in the industry in the next five years. Here’s what she had to say:

There are so many things I’d like to see change in this industry, but my top two are:
  • Equal representation across all areas, including, but not limited to, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, ethnic background, culture, etc.
  • The elimination of predatory business practices including, but not limited to, the buyout of composers’ rights and taking percentages of writers’ shares.
